# Risk geography map
> See where your suppliers are on a world map, narrowed by the same vendor filters you use on the vendor list.

The **Geography** tab under **Risk** draws every supplier location you hold. It answers a question per-vendor scoring does not: if forty of your suppliers run out of one metro area, one flood or one grid failure reaches all forty at once. You narrow the picture with the same filters you use on the vendor list.
## What the map draws
The map has two layers, and they answer different questions.
### Density
Density is the colored surface. It is built from suppliers whose address you hold and have geocoded, and it shows where those addresses pile up. A bright core means several suppliers within a short distance of each other, which is the concentration you care about. The scale in the side panel is the one the surface is drawn against, so you can read a color off the map and get a number.
### Country marks
Country marks are the small dots and the pale country tint. They stand for suppliers where you recorded a country but no street address. The mark sits at the country's center and stays small, because a larger mark would imply a precision the data does not have. The count is exact. Hover the mark or read the side panel to get it.
A country-only supplier is a complete record. Plenty of suppliers have no single street address worth recording. The map keeps them visible rather than dropping them, so your country totals still include them.
## Filtering the map
The **Filter** button sits at the top left of the map and opens the same filter menu as the **Vendors** and **Assessments** lists. Anything you can filter a vendor by, you can filter the map by.
Pick a field, pick a value, and the map redraws to the suppliers that match. Rules stack, and the bar under the button shows what is applied.
Some things this makes easy:

Arriving from a vendor's **Locations** card drops you here with that supplier already filtered. The rule is an ordinary one, so you can widen it, add to it, or clear it to get back to the whole estate.
### Archived suppliers
Archived suppliers are **off the map by default**. An archived supplier is one you have stopped working with, and leaving it in would inflate every country count you read.
To see them, add the **Archived** filter and set it to **Yes**. That reverses the default rather than adding to it, so you get archived suppliers only. It is a quick way to check what a wind-down removed from a region.
Archiving a supplier does not delete its addresses. They stay on the record, and they come back to the map as soon as the supplier is restored.
## Zooming into a country
Click any country to zoom in. The side panel switches to that country's breakdown by state or province, and the map swaps the density surface for one pin per address.
Your choice is remembered on the device, so returning to the tab reopens on the same country. **Back to world view** in the side panel returns to the full map.
## Many suppliers at one address
Shared campuses, office towers and colocation facilities mean several suppliers often sit on exactly the same coordinates. Drawn one mark per supplier, they stack into a single dot and you only ever see whichever drew last.
Coverbase groups them instead. Hover the mark to see how many are there, with the site name and address for each.
The list shows a few, expands to ten, and then says how many remain. To see the rest, filter to the supplier or the owner you are chasing, and the same mark will show only those.
## What you need to see anything
**Geography** appears under **Risk**. If you have no **Risk** section, the module is not switched on for your workspace.
The map shows supplier names and links to their records, so it requires vendor read access. Someone without it will not be able to open the tab.
Addresses come from supplier site records. They are collected through questionnaires, added on the vendor's **Locations** card, or loaded through the API. A workspace with no sites recorded gets an empty map.
Coverbase resolves addresses to coordinates on a schedule rather than when you save one, so a location added minutes ago may appear as a country mark first and move to its exact spot shortly after.
## What the map does not tell you
Check these before you present a number off this map.
### Density counts addresses, not headcount or spend
A supplier with one office and a supplier with thirty each contribute what they have recorded. The map answers where your suppliers are, not how much of your spend is there.
### A pale country is not an empty country
It usually means you hold the country but not the addresses. The country mark's count tells you how much is sitting in that state.
### The counts follow your filters
Once a rule is applied, every number in the side panel and every popover describes the filtered set, not the whole estate. Clear the filter before reading a total.
