For AI agents: a documentation index is available at https://docs.coverbase.com/llms.txt. This page is also available in markdown by appending .md to the URL.
This page is part of the User Guides collection and the Coverbase AI agent (Beta) set. It sits beside The Coverbase AI agent (Beta), Controls, approvals and governance and Example walkthroughs. To start a run, see Working with Coverbase AI.
Coverbase AI is in Beta. Your Coverbase team turns it on for your organization.
How to read the tables
The You approve column uses four values. They describe a run that asks before writes, which is how a run starts unless you turn on Don’t stop to ask.| Value | What it means |
|---|---|
| Nothing: read only | The step changes nothing. |
| Nothing: it makes the change | A change you can undo in the product. Coverbase AI makes it without stopping, and the Agent Ledger records it. An admin can set any of these to Always asks or Off. |
| Checkpoint | The run stops for your approval. Approve all like this or Don’t stop to ask can skip it, unless an admin set it to Always asks. |
| Always asks | An archive or an action that cannot be undone. It stops for your approval under every setting. |
Playbooks
Coverbase AI picks a playbook for each instruction, or writes a custom plan when none fits. The playbooks are listed under Playbooks on the Coverbase AI home page, each with a ready-made instruction.| Playbook | What it does | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|
| Onboard a vendor | From a vendor name to an assessed, monitored vendor: research, intake, screening, the inherent risk questionnaire, control sets, assessment, findings and Radar | Submitting the intake, the inherent risk review, launching, a new control set, turning a detector on |
| Inherent risk questionnaire | Runs your inherent risk questionnaire for a vendor from research and reads the profile it produces | Submitting, the inherent risk review |
| New assessment | Picks control sets for a vendor, launches, waits and summarizes the results with findings | Launching, raising findings, or one batch for many vendors |
| Zero Touch triage | Launches Zero Touch runs for one vendor or a list and ranks what needs a full assessment | Launching, or one batch |
| Radar monitoring | Deploys detector templates or writes a custom detector, left off, and clears the In Alert queue | Turning a detector on, dismissing, opening a case, starting a reassessment |
| Workflow | Forks the workflow template that matches the instruction and sets it up, left off | Turning it on |
| Dashboard | Forks the dashboard template that answers the question, adds library charts, or designs custom charts | A custom dashboard or custom charts: the card lists every chart |
| Review findings | Reads a vendor’s or an assessment’s open findings and issues and says what to do | Each commitment change, anything sent to the vendor |
| Review an assessment | Proposes an outcome for each control that needs a person, raises findings and obligations, and works an existing assessment | Each control while you watch, one batch in the background |
| Breach response | Works up a filing or a Radar signal that names a vendor in a breach | Confirming the vendor, the case, the finding, the reassessment |
| Build or edit a workflow, control set or questionnaire | Builds a draft, shows it, applies your edits, and publishes or turns it on after you approve | Creating, turning on, publishing, every control set change, archiving |
| Archive or turn off | Archives a record you name or turns a workflow or detector off, and says what goes with it | Always |
| Configuration | Changes email and portal templates, tags, statuses, scales, reassessment rules and settings as an admin would | Every change except your own notification settings |
| Answer a question | Answers from the record on the page, your records and the web, with a link for every record cited | Never: it writes nothing |
| Set up your vendor risk program | A new organization’s first setup, watched: learns how your program works, sets up controls, onboards the first vendor and launches its first assessment | Submitting, launching, a new control set |
Questions and research
Coverbase AI answers a question without changing anything. It reads the record you are on first, then your other records, then the public web when the question reaches outside Coverbase. Each record it cites is a link, and each claim from the web names its source.| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| What is still open on this assessment? (on an assessment) | Reads the assessment and answers with a link to each open item | Nothing: read only |
| Why is this finding still open? (on a finding) | Reads the finding’s history and answers with a dated chain: each date, who acted and what they did, ending with what it waits on | Nothing: read only |
| What changed on Okta this quarter? | Reads the vendor’s history and the records on it, and lists the changes by date | Nothing: read only |
| Has Okta reported a breach in the last 12 months? | Searches the web, counts only results about Okta, and names each source | Nothing: read only |
| What would Snowflake’s inherent risk be? (no Snowflake record) | Scores your risk domains from research in shadow mode, which saves nothing, and leads with the level and the domains that drive it | Nothing: read only |
| Which of our vendors depend on AWS? | Reads your Nth parties and lists the vendors that rely on the company | Nothing: read only |
| How many High findings are overdue, by owner? | Reads the findings register with that filter and gives the counts | Nothing: read only |
| What does our Vendor risk dashboard say about Critical vendors? | Reads the dashboard and names the chart each number comes from | Nothing: read only |
| Which intake requests are waiting on review? | Lists the open intake requests | Nothing: read only |
| What has Acme uploaded through its portal? | Lists Acme’s live documents with their type and upload date | Nothing: read only |
| Compare these two vendors (two vendors picked from +) | Builds a table of status, tier, inherent risk and open findings from the records, and names the gaps | Nothing: read only |
| List the opinion and every exception in this SOC 2 report (file attached) | Reads the report page by page and quotes each exception with its page | Nothing: read only |
Vendors and services
| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| Add Linear as a vendor directly. We approved it outside Coverbase. | Researches Linear and adds a vendor record without intake. The record starts in the Created status, which is not approval. An existing vendor by that name comes back instead of a duplicate. | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Set Okta’s status to Approved and add Priya as relationship owner | Finds the status and the person, then updates the vendor | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Tag every vendor headquartered in Germany with Region: EU | Resolves the vendors through the Vendors page’s filters (at most 50), names them, then tags them | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Make Sam the risk analyst on every Critical vendor | Resolves the set, then adds Sam as analyst on each | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Set Data residency to EU on Figma | Finds the custom field and sets its value with the field’s own option label | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Add a Payroll processing service under ADP and set its inherent risk to High because it holds every employee’s bank details | Adds the service and sets its level with your reason | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Set Vanta’s Privacy domain to High: it now processes HR data | Sets one risk domain’s level on the vendor with your reason | Checkpoint |
| Add jane@acme.com as Acme’s security contact | Adds the contact. Nobody is emailed. | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Add a new engagement under Okta for the SSO rollout | Creates the engagement on the vendor | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Merge “Salesforce Inc” into “Salesforce” | Says which vendor is kept and what moves to it, then merges | Always asks |
| Refresh Datadog’s vendor intelligence | Starts the refresh, which runs for a few minutes in the background | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Export every Critical vendor to Excel | Exports the vendor list with that filter | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Give me Okta’s vendor profile as a PDF | Produces the vendor’s profile report | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Import the vendors in this workbook (file attached) | Previews the import, shows how many rows create, update or will not import and why, then imports | Checkpoint |
| Invite jane@acme.com to Acme’s supplier portal as a contributor | Checks Acme has a supplier portal, then invites her | Always asks |
| Archive the Okta vendor | Says what goes with it, such as “Its 3 assessments, 12 documents and 2 obligations go with it”, then archives | Always asks |
Intake and onboarding
| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| Onboard Figma for design collaboration | Researches Figma, opens the intake request, confirms the match and use case, runs screening, drafts the inherent risk questionnaire, submits, researches inherent risk, decides whether an assessment is needed, launches it, waits, raises findings and sets up a Radar detector | Submitting (always asks), the inherent risk review, launching, turning the detector on |
| Onboard the vendor in this email (email attached) | Reads the email, then onboards the vendor it names, asking you to confirm the match | As above |
| Which intake requests are waiting for review? | Lists the open requests, most recently updated first | Nothing: read only |
| Assign the Notion intake request to the Security review group | Assigns the reviewer of the request’s submitted questionnaires | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Approve the Notion intake request. Screening is clean. | Reads the Front Door review and the request’s status, then approves with the reason. A vendor on your Do Not Use list needs your own rationale. | Always asks |
| Send the Miro request back asking what data the team will store in it | Sends the request back with one question per item. A requester with an account is notified, and one who filed through a public portal is emailed. | Always asks |
| Deny the Zoom request. We already pay for Microsoft Teams. | Denies the request with your reason, which is kept in the Agent Ledger | Always asks |
| Attach this DPA to the open Notion intake request (file attached) | Adds the file to the request’s documents | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Archive the test intake request called Demo | Archives the request so it leaves the reviewers’ queue | Always asks |
Inherent risk and risk scoring
| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| Run the inherent risk questionnaire for Snowflake | Drafts every required answer from research and Snowflake’s records, submits, researches inherent risk and reads the profile | Submitting (always asks), the inherent risk review |
| Research Okta’s inherent risk | Gathers the vendor intelligence profile, a web search for incidents, Radar’s alert history for 24 months and a live scan, the security rating, any Zero Touch result and the questionnaire answers, then scores each of your risk domains with a level, a confidence, a rationale and the evidence | The inherent risk review: agree or disagree per domain, move a level and say why, tick the assessments to run, and confirm. Only the confirmed levels are written to the vendor. |
| Add an AI use risk domain and set its weight to 10 | Checks the domain does not exist yet, adds it, and sets its weight | Checkpoint for each change |
| Rename the Medium level on our risk scale to Moderate | Reads the scale, says the change as old against new, then renames it | Checkpoint |
| Reassess High and Critical vendors every 12 months | Sets the interval for those levels under your default assessment plan, leaving other rules as they are | Checkpoint |
Assessments
| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| Assess Okta against NIST CSF 2.0 | Researches inherent risk, uses or adds the control set, launches, waits for the results, summarizes them and raises a finding for each flagged control | The inherent risk review, launching, each finding |
| Launch the Critical-tier plan for Datadog | Finds the assessment plan by name and launches it | Checkpoint, or always asks when the plan contacts the vendor |
| Assess every Critical vendor with no assessment in 2026 against SOC 2 | Resolves the vendors through the Vendors page’s filters (at most 50), names them, then proposes the launches as one batch | One batch: untick any vendor you do not want |
| Run Zero Touch on CrowdStrike, ServiceNow and GitHub | Launches one Zero Touch run each, waits, and ranks the vendors by what the runs found | Launching, or one batch |
| Approve the Zero Touch runs that found nothing material and escalate the rest | Reads each run’s results and records a reviewer decision only where the results support it. The vendor’s status stays with you. | One batch |
| Clone last year’s Okta assessment for 2027 | Copies the assessment with its vendor, documents, control sets and assignee under a new name | Checkpoint |

| Archive every cancelled assessment from 2024 | Resolves the set, names every assessment, then archives them together | Always asks |
Reviewing results and controls
| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| Review this assessment with me (watching) | Reads each control that needs a person (flagged, low confidence or marked for review), the evidence and the vendor’s answer, and proposes keep the issue, not an issue, mitigated, risk accepted, a finding or an obligation, one control at a time | Each control |
| Review the 2026 Atlassian initial assessment (in the background) | Works through every control, then pauses once on a list of proposed changes, each with its reason | One batch of up to 50 changes: untick what you disagree with and apply the rest |
| Mark controls 3.1 to 3.4 as not an issue. The pen test letter covers them. | Marks them together with your reason. The assessment’s scores are recomputed. | Checkpoint |
| Rate every encryption control Low | Rates the controls at that level of their scale | Checkpoint |
| Okta’s answer on 5.2 is wrong. It should be Yes. | Corrects the vendor’s answer and re-evaluates the control | Checkpoint |

| Draft follow-ups for every issue the evidence fell short on | Drafts the round’s questions and document requests | Nothing: it makes the change. Nothing is sent. |
| Reword follow-up 3 and remove the duplicates | Edits the drafted follow-ups | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Send the follow-ups to Okta, due December 15, 2026 | Opens the round on the portal and emails the vendor the link | Always asks |

| Record my approval on the review I was asked for | Records only the decision you stated | Checkpoint |
| Leave a note on control 4.2 and mention Priya | Posts the note as you and notifies the colleagues you mention, at most five | Nothing: it makes the change |
Questionnaires
| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| Build an intake questionnaire for AI vendors | Creates the template with sections and questions of the right response types, and summarizes it. Nobody receives it until someone sends it. | Checkpoint |
| Add a question asking whether the vendor trains models on our data, shown only when they say they use AI | Adds the question and the show rule, checked by the product’s own validators | Nothing: it makes the change |
| Score “Yes, production data” as 10 in our inherent risk questionnaire | Sets the option’s score on a draft or unsent version. A version with responses is refused. | Nothing: it makes the change |

| Remind the owners of open exit steps on the Zoom offboarding | Reminds your own people in Coverbase. Nothing goes to the vendor. | Nothing: it makes the change |
Configuration (admins)
Each change needs the permission its settings page needs. Coverbase AI reads the current value first and says the change as old against new.| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| Change the subject of the vendor invitation email to “Action needed: your security review” | Rewrites the template’s subject, keeping its variables | Checkpoint |

Many records at once
| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| Reassess every Critical vendor | Resolves the set and starts one background run per vendor, at most 25, then waits and writes one report linking each | Starting the runs is a checkpoint. Each run asks for its own checkpoints. |
| Set the Contract owner field on every vendor tagged Finance | Resolves the vendors, then proposes one change per vendor as one batch | One batch |
| Run Zero Touch on every vendor with no assessment | Resolves the vendors through the Vendors page’s filters (at most 50), names them, then proposes one launch per vendor as one batch | One batch |
Getting started and standing work
| You type | What Coverbase AI does | You approve |
|---|---|---|
| Set up my vendor risk program with me | Asks at most three questions (what you buy and the regulation you answer to, your frameworks, your first vendor), keeps the answers as memory, checks your risk domains, inherent risk questionnaire, control sets and portals, onboards the first vendor and launches its first assessment | Submitting, launching, a new control set |
Where else you can start or answer a run
- Slack and Microsoft Teams. A direct message that starts with
Coverbase AI:starts a background run as you. When a run needs you, the approval can reach you there. - Email. A needs-you email has one button per option, and you can reply to it in your own words.
- Your AI assistant. The MCP server starts, answers, steers and stops runs.
What Coverbase AI does not do yet
These modules are not available to Coverbase AI in Beta: RFPs, Inspect, risk scenarios, sending a contract for signature, and allowlisting a screening match. A run that touches one says so in its report and does the rest of the job.Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The run says it cannot do a step | You lack the permission the step’s page needs, or an admin set that change to Off. The report says which. |
| The run did a change without asking | It was a change you can undo, which runs without a checkpoint. Ask an admin to set it to Always asks under What Coverbase AI May Do on Its Own. |
| The run changed the wrong record | Undo the change on the record’s page, then tell the run which record you meant, or start again from the record’s page. |
| The run asked about each change one by one | You were watching. In the background, a review pauses once on a batch. |
| A set was cut short | Batches hold at most 50 changes, and child runs are at most 25. The run proposes the rest after you answer. |
